General
- Scientists
all over the world make new discoveries by using the scientific method.
A science fair project is your chance to choose a subject of interest to
you and study it in the exact same way that a professional scientific
researcher would. You may choose to study a topic such as how lighting
affects plants or how much of the air is oxygen.
Types of Science Fair Projects
- Experiment -- The
traditional science project using the scientific method: question,
hypothesis, procedure, results, conclusion.
- Invention –
Create/improve an invention to do some task.
- Model/Demonstration
-- A model illustrates how a scientific process works. Models should be in
fields of science and technology.
- Collections --
Collections are particularly useful when they separate things into
categories.Collections should be in science/technology fields.
Technology
- The scientific method
is a process for experimentation that is used to answer questions and
explore observations.
- Scientists use an
experiment to search for cause and effect relationships in nature.
They design an experiment so that changes to one item cause
something else to vary in a predictable way. These changing quantities are
called variables.
- An overview of the
scientific method that you will need to understand in order to complete
your science fair project.
Report
- Written reports should
accompany the exhibits. They need not be long; in fact, a one page report
might be just right for some projects. Reports should include the title
and authors, purpose of the project , methods, results , and conclusions.
- Oral presentations of
the projects will be made by the students at two times: during the school
day on April 26 to volunteer "judges," who will offer interview the
children and
- Offer feedback; and at
the open house that night to parents, other students, and anyone else who
is interested.
- Obligatory legal stuff:
The school is not responsible for security of your project equipment and
display during the exponent.
