Information @ a Glance

General

  • Inositol, (of which the most prominent naturally occurring form is myo-inositol, cis-1,2,3,5-trans-4,6-cyclohexanehexol), is a carbocyclic polyol that plays an important role as the structural basis for a number of secondary messengers in eukaryotic cells.
  • It including inositol phosphates, phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylinositol phosphate (PIP) lipids.
  •  It is found in many foods, in particular, in cereals with high bran content, nuts, beans, and fruit, especially cantaloupe melons and oranges. Inositol is not considered a vitamin itself because it can be synthesised by the body.

Process

  • Extracts of immature kernels of Zea mays catalysed the synthesis of indol-3- ylacetyl-myo-inositol galactoside from indol-3-ylacetyl-myo-inositol and UDP-galactose.
  • The product of the reaction contained radioactivity from UDP-[U-'4C]galactose and was identified as indol-3-ylacetylmyo-inositol galactoside by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
  • Therefore a UDP-galactose :indol-3-ylacetyl-myo-inositol galactosyltransferase (indol-3-ylacetylmyo-inositol galactoside synthase) is present in developing kernels of Zea mays.

Technology

  • The enzyme inositol oxygenase (myo-inositol : oxygen oxidoreductase; is a monooxygenase that converts inositol into glucuronic acid in the presence of molecular oxygen.
  • Myo-inositol and several other polyols in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma from 10 AD subjects and 10 healthy age-matched controls by using a gas chromatographic-mass spectrometric technique.
  • A myo-inositol transport mutant was isolated from UV-mutagenized S. cerevisiae cells using the replica-printing technique.
  • There is a paucity of data on the way (cAMP, inositol), qualitatively or quantitatively, altered in heart failure (HF).
  • These studies were performed separately on animal models, but no study checked cAMP and inositol changes in the same animal model simultaneously.

Market

  • Currently there are 11 active producers of inositol in China, and most of them are distributed in North China.
  • China is a large producing country of inositol in the world, about 80% of whose output was exported to overseas market.
  •  Thus overseas demand of inositol has an important impact on Chinese inositol industry.

Application

  • Pig feed is mainly based on cereals where phosphorus (P) is mostly present in inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), which is not readily available to monogastric animals.
  • Inositol phosphate-containing molecules play an important role in a broad range of cellular processes.
  • Inositol 5-phosphatases participate in the regulation of these signaling molecules.
  • Inositol is a simple isomer of glucose that is a key metabolic precursor in the phosphatidylinositol cycle.
