Process

  • Ethyl salicylate is synthesized by reacting methanol and 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde to produce methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate. From methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate, we produce salicylic acid, then finally ethyl salicylate.

Uses

  • Ethyl salicylate is also used in both edible and non-edible products that have a wintergreen, tutti-frutti, or balsam scent.
  • Ethyl salicylate, is interesting because it is a type of oil of wintergreen, often used in perfumes and fragrances.
