- A watch is
a timepiece that is made to be worn on a person, as opposed to a
clock which is not. The term now usually refers to a wristwatch,
which is worn on the wrist with a strap or bracelet.
- Electronic
watches require electricity as a power source. Some mechanical
movements and hybrid electronic-mechanical movements also
require electricity.
- A
photovoltaic cell on the face (dial) of the watch converts light
to electricity, which in turn is used to charge a rechargeable
battery or capacitor. The movement of the watch draws its power
from the rechargeable battery or capacitor.
- All
components of electronic watches are manufactured under a strict
system of quality control.
- Microchips
must be made in a "clean room" environment with specially
filtered air, since even the tiniest dust particles can render a
chip useless. Microchips are examined carefully and are also
bench tested for accuracy before use.
- Electronic
industry uses CFC, Carbon Tetrachloride and Methyl Chloroform
for cleaning of printed circuit boards after assembly to remove
flux residues left after soldering, and various kinds of foams
for packaging.
- The demand
for electronic products from digital watches to CNCs has created
an unparalleled competitive environment driving product designs
into smaller packages, with more capability, to process data
faster, have higher reliability and all at a lower cost.
- The
electronic Quartz Clocks are technically superior to the
mechanical ones. Since the raw materials and components are
available at a cheaper rate, the price of the electronic clocks
has come down substantially. This reduction in prices has
boosted the demand.
- Exports of
wristwatches in steel generated the most substantial value at
6.3 billion francs. This was 14.7% more than in 2006.
- The
electronic watch industry is dominated by HMT, Allwyn and Titan.
- The Indian
electronic watch industry has tremendous potential to grow.
