General
- Diethyl Oxalate is a
clear, colorless liquid with a mild, characteristic odor.
- Diethyl Oxalate is
miscible with alcohols, ether and other common organic solvents.
Process
- The synthesis of
diethyl oxalate by a coupling reaction of carbon monoxide, catalyzed by
palladium in the presence of ethyl nitrite.
- Transesterification of
diethyl oxalate with phenol to form diphenyl oxalate has been carried out
in liquid phase using MoO3/SiO2 solid acid catalyst with high conversion
and 100% selectivity.
- Diethyl oxalate was
injected into a digester containing wood chips preheated to 130–1408C and
held for 30 min at the same temperature. When mechanical pulps were
produced from these pretreated chips, savings in electrical refiner energy
could be achieved.
Uses
- Diethyl Oxalate is a
chemical intermediate used in the manufacture of compounds such as
phenobarbital and various dyes.
- It is a solvent for a
number of synthetic and natural resins. There are some specialty
applications as a solvent in nitrocellulose lacquers.
- Diethyl Oxalate is
used as a solvent for paint stripping and resins and cleaner for
polymeric residues.
