General
-
4-Aminophenol is a white powder. It is a breakdown product of
paracetamol. The compound is commonly known for its use in the Black and
White film developer, Rodinal.
-
p-Aminophenol is a colorless crystalline solid. It is easily oxidizes on
air coloring in deep brown tint.
Process
-
3-Aminophenol has been prepared by treating resorcinol with ammonia
under pressure, or fusion of metanilic acid with sodium hydroxide at
elevated temperatures.
-
The
development of automated colorimetric method for the quantitative
determination of p-aminophenol with a Cobas Mira analyzer. An absorbed
aniline dose is extensively oxidized to p-aminophenol, which is excreted
in urine mainly as glucurono- and sulfo- conjugates.
-
Biotransformation products of hydroxylaminobenzene and aminophenol
produced by 3-nitrophenol-grown cells of Pseudomonas putida 2NP8, a
strain grown on 2- and 3-nitrophenol, were characterized.
Uses
-
p-Aminophenol is used in production of sulfur and azo dyes.
-
p-Aminophenol and it derivatives of metol, glycine and amidol are photo
developers.
-
The
intermediate for paracetamol, 4-aminosalicylic acid, sulphur dyes,
rubber antioxidant, photo developer.
Report
-
para-Aminophenol
is a hair dye precursor. It is incorporated in oxidative hair dye
formulations and in the bottle on the market at a maximum concentration
of 1.8% and is typically mixed in a 1:1 ratio with an oxidative agent
thereby reaching a concentration of 0.9% for in use application.
-
The
acetaminophen metabolite, p-aminophenol (PAP), is a known nephrotoxicant.
The current study is directed at understanding the mechanism of this
nephrotoxicity.
