General
- The allethrins are a pair of related synthetic compounds used
in insecticides. They are synthetic pyrethroids, a synthetic form of a
chemical found naturally in the chrysanthemum flower.
- Allethrin is a racemic mixture of 8 stereoisomers. d-allethrin is >
95% (1R)-isomers and > 75% trans isomers.
Production
- It is estimated
that several hundred tonnes of allethrin, d-allethrin, bioallethrin,
esbiothrin, and S-Bioallethrin are manufactured and used yearly
throughout the world, mainly for the control of household insects.
- Groups of ten
female adult houseffies, under cyclopropane anaesthesia, were
treated topically on the dorsal thorax with doses varying from 0 6
to 12-0 Ag. of [14C]allethrin/fly in 1pl. of A.R. acetone.
Applications
- Alphacypermethrin
is a highly active synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, piperonyl
butoxide acts as a synergist and D-trans allethrin is a knockdown
agent.
- The allethrin
causes hyper-activation of the insect and ultimately increased
uptake of the insecticidal spray.
- Allethrin
pesticide was the first of the pyrethroids widely produced as an
insecticide This synthetic compound is used almost exclusively in
homes and gardens for control of flies and mosquitoes.
- Products
containing active ingredients, such as, acephate, allethrin,
bifenthrin, bioallethrin, carbaryl, cyfluthrin, deltamethrin,
esfenvalerate, imidacloprid, malathion, permethrin, phenothrin,
pyrethrins, resmethrin and tetramethrin are labeled for treating
ants.
Market
-
The output
of the national pesticides such as allethrin was 61,000 tons
altogether, increased by 6.83% in some period and dropped by 3.17%
compared with last month of same period.
- On the basis of
the review of current insecticide products and sales trends, several
insecticides and two synergists were added to the candidate list:
acephate, aldicarb, allethrin and related pesticides (d-allethrin,
d-trans allethrin, S-bioallethrin, prallethrin, and esbiothrin),
clarified hydrophobic extract of Neem oil, lambda cyhalothrin,
tetramethrin, tralomethrin, n-octyl bicycloheptene dicarboximide,
and piperonyl butoxide (PBO).
