- Fertilizer is a material
that is added to the soil to supply one or more elements required for
plant growth and productiveness.
- There are many grades and
analyses of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilizers,
but all can be grouped into three lasses—liquids, solids and gaseous.
- Mixed fertilizers contain
two or more of the elements nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium that are
essential for good plant growth and greater crop yields.
- Although it is generally
agreed that fertilizers come in three physical forms (liquid, solid and
gas), there are actually only two classes of fertilizers: liquid and
solid.
- An npk fertilizer is
usually thought of as a chemical fertilizer, but npk applies to any soil
amendment that supplies Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and K, Potassium,
including organic fertilizers.
- An organic npk fertilizer
can be slow-releasing or fast-releasing. Many have both quick-releasing
“labile” nutrients, and more “recalcitrant” nutrients that break down
slowly and supply a steady stream of nutrients over a longer period.
- A “balanced” organic npk
fertilizer is one that provides nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium—the
main macronutrients needed by plants.
- The fertilizer is
manufactured by acidulation of phosphate with a mineral acid and
subsequent removal of calcium salt, evaporation and prilling or
granulation.
- Granulation with a pipe
reactor system, Drum granulation with ammoniation, Mixed acid process
with phosphate rock digestion - These three production principles can be
combined with different types of granulation and drying equipment and
different types of air ef?uent treatment systems.
- India is the 3rd largest
fertilizer producer in the world. In India chemical fertilizers played a
significant role which is well recognized and established for the
success in agriculture sector, not only in terms of meeting total
requirement of food grains but also generating exportable surpluses.
- According to fertilizers
association of India during the Year 2008-09 the production of
Fertilizers in India was 143 Lakhs Tons and India had to import over 100
Lakhs Tons to meet the domestic requirement.
- The importance of the
fertilizer sector in India need hardly be emphasized as it provides a
very vital input for the growth of Indian agriculture and is an
inevitable factor that has to be reckoned within the attainment of the
goal of self-sufficiency in food grains.
- Economic feasibility of
the fertilizer practices is an essential element of improving crop
productivity.
- Mixed fertilizers contain
two or more of the elements nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium that are
essential for good plant growth and greater crop yields.
- The chemical fertilizer
industry has been very important to Thailand's economic development and
will continue to be in the years to come. Chemical fertilizer has played
a vital role in raising agricultural productivity.
- In order to improve the
standard of quality of farm produce and to ensure that supply will be
able to meet the ever rising demand, chemical fertilizer remains an
indispensable factors of production in agriculture.
- Salient features and
benefits of NPK are: used worldwide, ensure supply of all the three
ingredients in a balanced ratio, ensure correct application in
appropriate dose for each crop, enhance fertilizer use efficiency and
minimize nutrient losses.
