Introduction
- Metribuzin
is a white crystalline solid with a mild odour which is often used
in a liquid mixture.
- Metribuzin
was first registered as a pesticide in the U.S. in 1973.
- Metribuzin generally has been
shown to be of low acute toxicity.
- It is slightly toxic by the oral
and inhalation routes and has been placed in Toxicity Category III
(the second lowest of four categories) for this effect.
- Some of the Other names of
Metribuzin are
4-amino-6-tert-butyl-3-(methylthio)- ,
as-Triazin-5(4H)-one, 4-amino-6-tert-butyl-3-(methylthio)- (8CI) ,

Uses
-
Metribuzin is
a herbicide used to selectively control certain broadleaf weeds and
grassy weed species on a wide range of sites including vegetable and
field crops, turf grasses (recreational areas), and non-crop areas.
-
Formulations
include wettable powder, emulsifiable concentrate, water dispersible
granules (dry flowable), and flowable concentrate.
-
Metribuzin is
applied by various methods including aerial, chemigation, and ground
application.
Report
-
Effects of
increasing doses of the herbicidal preparation Sencor 70 WP (metribuzin
a.i.) on selected potato varieties were studied in a field and pot
experiments using very rapid fluorescence induction (vrFI).
-
Cytological
effects of two herbicides, Glyphosate and Metribuzin on Vicia aba L
.root tips were studied using lower and higher doses of these
pesticides for four different duration.
-
Reduction in
mitotic index and root length were observed in two pesticides.
-
Percentage of
aberrant mitosis increased.
-
In the present
investigation, the reduction in mitotic activity by Glyphosate and
Metribuzin were associated with a reduction in the amounts of DNA.
