- JUTE Bags are
eco-friendly. 100% bio-degradable. Jute is a fast growing crop with
a much higher carbon dioxide assimilation rate than trees.
- Jute production
creates much needed employment in poorer regions of the world.
- Jute bags are strong,
trendy and reusable. The best polymer for use as a liner for jute
bags, is polypropylene of 100µm thickness at the most.
- Packaging of
agricultural products such as wheat, barley, and pulses in jute bags
allows the insect pests to move freely into and out of the bags and
results in dispersal of the infestation.
- The use of polymer
films as inner liners of jute bags to enable in-bag fumigation and
minimize crossinfestation.
It is not denying that cost of jute bag is higher as compared to
synthetic bag. In fact, Sack Sewing & Finishing Deptt. of jute mills
is highly labour intensive and machinery used are very old and low
productive.
- In the early days jute
bags were used to be seamed by hand sewing. After the invention of
sewing machine in 1846 by Ilias Howe mechanized stitching of jute
bags started. Since 1890 lock stitch (type 301) and single thread
chain stitch (type 101) were used. These stitches were replaced by
overhead sewing machine in 1910 for higher productivity and stronger
seam.
- Till date this system
of seaming jute bags is in vogue where productivity level has been
increased by more than 400%.
Jute bags are made generally either in hemmed or selvedge type for
packing different commodities like rice, wheat, sugar etc.
- End use performance of
jute bag is much superior to synthetic bag USF of jute like, high
tensile strength, low elongation, rugged texture, high frictional
resistance, desirable thermal conductivity, adequate air
permeability etc. have made it possible to establish jute bag as the
most suitable packaging material.
- Unquestionable
eco-compatibility and bio-degradable nature of jute is its another
important strength to prefer jute bag.
- The jute bag that
carries 50 kg weighs about 540 g, whereas the Polypropylene (PP) bag
that carries the same weight weighs about 100 g.
- The majority of Jute
bags is produced for the local markets in Asia, Africa and batching
oils based on mineral hydrocarbons are still used for the products.
