GENERAL

Fipronil is an
insecticide discovered and developed by Rhône-Poulenc between
1985-87 and placed on the market in 1993.

Although
effective against a variety of pests, there are concerns about its
environmental and human health effects.

Actively marketed
in many industrialised and developing countries its, worldwide use
is increasing.

Fipronil has been classified as a Group C (Possible
Human) Carcinogen based on an increase in thyroid follicular cell
tumors in both sexes of the rat.
FIRST AID
MEASURES

Skin contact:
Remove contaminated clothing. Wash affected areas with plenty of
soap and water.

Eye contact:
Immediately irrigate with copious quantities of water for at least
15 minutes. Seek medical assistance.

Ingestion: If
swallowed immediately contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre
(telephone: 131126) and follow the advice given. Keep under medical
supervision.

Do not attempt to
give anything by mouth to a semi-conscious or unconscious person.
APPLICATION

Fipronil is commonly mixed into a monthly topical
product such as Frontline and is easy to apply.

Application is simple and
all it takes is a simple squirt onto the back of the pets neck.
