General
Information
- Copper slag is an
abrasive blasting grit made of granulated slag from metal smelting
processes (also called iron silicate).
- Copper slag is a
by-product created during the copper smelting and refining process.
- Copper slag blasting
edia/grit is manufactured of the granulated slag of copper
refineries, and used for blast-cleaning of metal surface.
- Copper slag is a
by-product obtained during the production of copper metal, which can
be used as pozzolana in the production of cementing materials.
- One of the primary
advantages to copper slag is the low risk it poses to health and the
environment.
- Copper slag also has a
high strength-to-weight ratio, making it an effective option in
concrete, or as a fill material under the roadway.
Uses
- Copper slag has
also gained popularity in the building industry for use as a
fill material.
- Contractors may
also use copper slag in place of sand during concrete
construction.
- Copper slag can
also be used as a building material, formed into blocks.
- Copper slag is
widely used in the sand blasting industry and it has been used
in the manufacture of abrasive tools.
- In general, the
spent copper slag is suitable to be used as a fill material for
land reclamation.
- Copper slag is
widely used as an abrasive media to remove rust, old coating and
other impurities in dry abrasive blasting due to its high
hardness (6-7 Mohs), high density (2.8-3.8 g/cm3) and low free
silica content.
Report
- The copper
slag, the by product of the melting plant of Lac, north
Albania can be used successfully as Portland cement
substitute in the cement industry.
- Copper slag is
one of the materials that is considered as a waste material
which could have a promising future in construction industry
as partial substitute of either cement or aggregates.
- In Singapore,
raw copper slag has been reused to remove rust and marine
deposits that had accumulated on ships.
- Sterlite
Industries (India) finds a huge potential for the use of
copper slag in concrete applications.
- At present,
across the world around 33 tonnes of slag is generated while
in India three copper producers Sterlite, Birla Copper and
Hindustan Copper produce around 6-6.5 tonnes of slag at
different sites.
