- Chlorinated
polyethylene (CPE) is one kind of high molecule elastic material
developed in late years, which is one of the random chloride
produced through reaction of polyethylene and chlorine. Along with
rapid development of plastic and rubber industry, its application
becomes much wider.
- CPE has good
flexibility, ozone resistance, weather ability, heat aging, oil
resistance, flame retardance, electrical
properties, chemical resistance sex. Flexibility and a weakened
resistance to cold.
- Chlorinated
polyethylene products fall into two major categories : one category
is resin type, known as a "CPE" logo and the other is
rubber-based, as a "CM" logo.
-
Chlorinated-Polyethylene is odorless nontoxic and white or pale
yellow powder with excellent resistance to weathering or age ozone
chemicals, and good resistance to oil or flame.
-
Chlorinated-Polyethylene offers excellent flexibility and resistance
to ignition, chemicals, heat, low temperatures and weathering at a
low overall system cost.
- CPE is widely
used in various plastic profiled bars, building shape bars, pipes
and pipe fitting, vacuum containers for injection, parts and
components of automobiles and telecommunication apparatus, and body
cases of household electrical appliance, etc.
- CPE can be used
to produce various rubber products which is used in the open air,
mines and cold areas, and smoldering conveyer belts, oil resistant
rubber, acid resistant rubber, rubber parts of automobiles, rubber
shoes, waterproof rolls, sealing adhesive tapes for windows, etc.
- CPE is widely
used in producing excellent cables and electric appratus with heat
resistance, ozone resistance, oil resistance and flame retardant
property.
-
Chlorinated-Polyethylene can be used as a base polymer or as an
additive to polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile butadiene
styrene (ABS), styrene acrylonitrile (SAN), high density
polyethylene (HDPE), and polypropy- lene (PP) for a wide range of
applications spanning both thermoplastic and thermoset chemistries.
- China and the
United States were the two largest consumers of chlorinated
polyethylene in 2008.
- In China, roughly
75–80% of the CPE consumed is used for impact modification of PVC
for door/window profiles, pipes/drainage applications, and certain
styrenic copolymers. The other 20–25% of CPE consumed is used in
flexible sheeting for roofing applications, electrical wires and
cables, and other rubber product uses (e.g., oil hoses and
seals, and new applications).
- In the United
States, 80–90% of CPE consumed is for impact modification and
the rest is for other uses including, but not limited to, wire
and cable jacketing, roofing applications, automotive and industrial
hose/tubing and molded shapes.
- CPE consumption
in Europe (driven mainly by Central and Eastern Europe), the Middle
East/Africa, China and Other is expected to grow at average annual
rates of 1.0%, 4.0%, 6.0% and 2.5%, respectively, while the United
States and Japan will show a decrease in consumption in the forecast
period from 2008 to 2013.
- About 80% of CPE
is used for PVC modification and about 20% for the production of
wires, cables and ABS modification. World consumption of CPE is
forecast to grow at an average annual rate of about 4%.
